Anne Arundel Medical Center, Blood Donor Center
The Anne Arundel Medical Center’s Blood Donor Center, Wayson Pavilion, Suite 450, seeks blood donors age 17 and older, by appointment. The procedure takes about 30 minutes and includes a free mini-physical and cholesterol reading. Parking is free. Contact 443-481-4215.
Anne Arundel County Public Schools
The Office of Equity Assurance & Human Relations is seeking a volunteer office aide, age 18 or older, for routine office duties to assist all office personnel. Such duties include answering phones, preparing event and meeting materials, filing, greeting and directing persons visiting the office, sorting mail, and other duties as assigned by the Executive Assistant to the Director. Anne Arundel Department of Aging and Disabilities
Chronic Disease Self-Management Leaders: The Department is looking for volunteers who want to learn to be Chronic Disease Self-Management Leaders. Leaders will co-facilitate a six-week workshop for participants who suffer from chronic conditions. Leaders do not have to be health care professionals, but should have a chronic disease or be a care-giver of someone with a Chronic Disease. Leaders will become specialists who can help participants develop self-management skills and will need to be able to lead one workshop per year. Training will take place in March at the Department of Aging and Disabilities, 2666 Riva Road, in Annapolis. - 2:30 or 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011, Friendly Visitor Program Volunteer Orientation: This 90-minute orientation is being offered for volunteers needed for the Friendly Visitor Program coordinated by the Department of Aging and Disabilities. The Program matches a homebound isolated person age 55 or older, or an adult with disabilities, with a volunteer visitor who comes to his or her own home. The Department matches by geographic area and similar interests. The trained Friendly Visitor visits at least one hour per week for a six month minimum. The Southern Maryland Office serves the residents of Maryland (except Montgomery and PG Co.), Delaware, and Eastern West Virginia, by making the public knowledgeable about arthritis and the importance of appropriate treatment and by helping people take personal control of their arthritis through self-help classes, warm water and land exercise programs and support and education groups. GreenScape 2011, Sat., April 16, 2011
The Annapolis Recreation and Parks Department has announced GreenScape 2011 to take place on April 16, 2011. GreenScape is a volunteer effort, sponsored by the City of Annapolis through many of its departments, which encourages and supports individuals and organizations to plant and maintain native gardens in public areas throughout the City. The City provides plant materials, mulch, trash bags and gloves; and the community provides volunteers who want to make a difference in their community. This is the 20th year of this annual program of beautification, clean-up and planting in public spaces throughout the City of Annapolis by volunteers. Organizational meetings are planned for 7 pm, Wed., Feb. 9, and Mar. 9, 2011 in Room 1 at the Pip Moyer Rec. Center on Hilltop Lane in Annapolis. Hospice of the Chesapeake
Hospice of the Chesapeake is in need of volunteers who enjoy cooking to assist the staff at the Mandrin Hospice House in Harwood and the Tate Hospice House in Linthicum. Our patients are comforted by home-cooked meals prepared by our volunteers. Training is provided. Newseum (Washington, DC)
Volunteers, age 16 and up, are needed to assist Newseum staff in many vital roles at the museum in Washington, DC. Volunteers are needed to assist Newseum staff in the following areas: Visitor services; Public programs and educational workshops; Collections management and artifact processing; Research and/or writing; Word processing, mailings and other administrative functions; and, testing/evaluating ongoing programs. North County Emergency Outreach Network (NCEON)
NCEON in cooperation with area churches helps persons in their community in need of crisis assistance because of evictions, utility turn-off notices, emergency prescription needs, food pantry or other services. NCEON needs occasional volunteers to staff the office, stock shelves, bag food for the pantry and donate food and other items for the pantry. Opportunities Industrialization Center (OIC)
This non-profit agency provides job training and placement services to low income unemployed and underemployed residents of Anne Arundel County. A wide variety of volunteers are needed to assist with basic computer, GED, English as a Second Language, resume writing, math skills, writing skills, job skills, job interviewing classes and much more. Classes are held in Annapolis, daily from 9 am to 3 pm and on Mondays and Wednesdays evenings from 6 pm to 9 pm. Executive Director is Ed Greene.
Office volunteers are needed at the 1908 Forest Drive office Mon through Thurs from 9 am to Noon to answer phones, take messages, keep the Director’s calendar, assist clients, and assist with paper work and light filing.
