Svet, as friends call her, is a natural athlete and always in the middle of the action. She’s played center mid on the field hockey team and is the Saints tennis team’s No. 1 singles player and captain. Last fall she won the field hockey team’s Unsung Hero Award and this spring, hopes to help the Saints tennis team contend for the North Bayside girls’ title.

Carrying a 3.4 GPA, she was recently accepted to Stevenson University, where she’ll major in fashion. Svet is a member of the school yearbook staff, Students Helping Other People, and the St. Michaels High chapter of the National Honor Society. “Being on a sports team has taught me self-discipline,” Svetlana says, “and how to be a team player.” The eldest child of Carl and Pam Widell of St. Michaels, Svetlana has a younger sister, 16-year-old Katya. Her hobbies include travel, visiting the beach, and spending time with family and friends.
