Service with a Smirk

I spent the weekend in Boston meeting people from all over the East Coast who had made the trek to Beantown for the marathon, whether running, observing or just showing up to see the city at it's most vibrant. It's funny how sometimes when you go out of town you start thinking of home. People commented on my accent -- which I didn't know existed, and told me stories of the time they've spent in Baltimore, Annapolis and D.C. I also went to a lot of restaurants and bars in the city, including the original Dick's Last Resort in Quincy Market, which opened 18 years ago. I don't know if you've heard of this place -- but the whole point is that the staff gives the customers a hard time, only all in fun. For example, you may have a roll fly past your head or be given a silly hat to wear. The food is bar food, and it's written on the wall instead of on a menu. Hey, Earth Day is coming up. Too bad they waste a lot of paper making the patrons funny hats. Anyways, the Dicks in Baltimore has live music on Fridays and Saturdays, so even if the waitstaff annoys you too much, the music will probably drown them out. Up this Friday: The Davids.
