Local produce, meats, cheese, more available every Thursday afternoon through the season.
Cambridge, MD – The Main Street Farmers’ Market opens for its fifth season on Thursday, May 5, with fresh local produce, meats, bison, bread, herbs, plants and handmade jewelry.
Early in the season, look for Butter Pot Farm, Harris Farm, S.B. Bison, Cedar Run Farm, Joan’s Gems, Catnap Gardens, Bay Country Bakery, and the Beasley Farm. The 2011 edition of the market will run every Thursday, 3-6pm, from May 5 through October 13, near the corner of Academy and Muir Streets in downtown Cambridge.
“People are looking for ways to be “green”, and our Farmers Market offers a great place to find local vegetables, fruits, meats, breads and plants – enough for a well-balanced meal,” said Beth Ann Lynch, manager of the Cambridge market. “And you can make your trip even greener if you walk or bike to the market, as so many of our customers do.”
Lynch also suggested the market makes a great outing for families with young children. “This is a fun way to talk to your children about the fact that produce grows on farms, not in supermarkets. Plus, if you invite them to help pick out produce, they may be more likely to eat it,” she said.
The Main Street Farmers’ Market offers an opportunity to catch up with friends and neighbors, pointed out Jim Duffy, executive director of Cambridge Main Street, which runs the market. “The market offers a nice gathering spot downtown. While you’re here, pick up a gift in one of our downtown shops, stop in one of our galleries or treat yourself to lunch before the market at one of our great restaurants."
