What is sportaculture? I’m not sure if this is an actual word, but there is no doubt that sports are important parts of our lives. Just take a look at the avid Caps fans rocking the red all over the D.C. area in the past couple weeks. But did you know how many playwrights merge sports with theater? I certainly didn’t – until I read about the event known as Sportaculture (no coincidence there) taking place at Riverdale Town Center in Riverdale this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
This event features seven free performances by local playwrights. Some of the subjects include the Nationals winning the World Series, father and son sharing a moment at FedEx Field, a celebration of the Terps winning the National Championship, a girl invading the mancave while a group of guys watch the Redskins game, rugby on the National Mall, and a high school locker room in Camp Springs.
Show up at 7:30 on Friday or Saturday to check them all out, or come on Sunday at 2 to enjoy ArtsFest at the same time. No athletic ability is required.
