As a resident of Annapolis, it can sometimes seem daunting for me to drive across that great bridge over the Bay. This is especially true on weekends such as this one, where it will undoubtedly be clogged with beach traffic. While Annapolis is quite busy with Naval Academy graduation and Memorial Day events, I thought it was important to give some love to some exciting things happening on Saturday a little further east.
For the Kids ...
Beckwith Strawberry Festival at Beckwith United Methodist Church, Cambridge [9 a.m.] When I was a kid, I wasn’t huge on fruits and vegetables, but I always loved strawberries. In fact, I was one of the few who ordered the strawberry milkshakes and sundaes in lieu of the ubiquitous chocolate. At this festival, you can enjoy strawberries, of course, often in pie form. In addition, there will be soups, cakes, chicken salad sandwiches, ice cream, and more, plus a flea market, music, and arts and crafts. To find out more, call 410-228-7807.
For the Grown-ups ...
1st Anniversary Bash at Layton's Chance Vineyard & Winery, Vienna [2-9 p.m.] Celebrate a year of wine-making in Dorchester County. Randy Lee Ashcraft returns with the Saltwater Cowboys, as well as Justin Ryan of Easton. Bring accoutrements for a picnic lunch or dinner or buy burgers, hot dogs, clam strips or barbeque provided by Millie’s Roadhouse. Of course, wine will be available. Find out more.
For the Whole Family ...
James B. Richardson Foundation Maritime Fair at the Ruark Boatworks, Cambridge [7:30 a.m.-2 p.m.] Like boats or just want to learn more about them? Attend this festival with includes a silent auction and used boat corral, model building, sailing in the pond, decoys, buoys, photography, painting and more.
