September 8: Baltimore Stoneware: Its History and Uses (FSK Lecture)
The evolution of the stoneware craft in Baltimore from 1812 to 1900. Speaker- Luke Zipp, Specialist in Stoneware Pottery History, Crocker Farm Auction House.

September 10: Finding your Civil War Ancestor (Maryland Genealogical Society).
Please join the Maryland Historical Society and The Maryland Genealogical Society for the jointly sponsored workshop, "Researching Your Civil War Ancestors." Speakers and topics include: Michael Hait, "Your Civil War Ancestors: A Guide to Research;” David Shriver Lovelace, "The Shriver Family: A Genealogical Perspective of the Civil War;" Michael Musick, "Lesser Known Civil War Records at NARA." The day includes breakfast, catered lunch, optional tours of the Maryland Historical Society Civil War Exhibits, plus use and tours of the outstanding H. Furlong Baldwin Library. You can also bring a laptop for Wi-Fi access to do your own research.

September 15: Defender’s Day Celebration
An evening cocktail/buffet reception honoring Dr. Nancy Grasmick, as the first recipient of the Society’s Maryland Defender Award. View the Star Spangled Banner and the Defenders of Baltimore in the new War of 1812 Gallery. Silent/Live auction. Business attire.

October 2011

October 1-2: Civil War Expo Weekend
Explore specific aspects of the Civil War. Please check out our website, www.mdhs.org as plans for this weekend become solidified.

October 6: ‘O Say Can you See’ (FSK Lecture)
The real story behind the creation of the Star Spangled Banner. Speaker David Hildebrand, Early American Music Historian.

October 13: The Civil Rights Era in Baltimore: Free Fall Event
Celebrate two important collections highlighting the Civil Rights Era in Baltimore: The Henderson Photograph Collection and the McKeldin Jackson Oral History Collection.

October 22: Whose Who in Baltimore?
See portraits of important Marylanders at the Maryland Historical Society, and then visit their graves with guided tours through Greenmount Cemetery. Lunch included.

November 2011

November 3: Wildfowl Market Hunting for the Street Markets in Baltimore (FSK Lecture)
Exploring classic decoys, guns, photos, price lists and menus. Speaker Henry Stansbury, Decoy Specialist and Chairman Emeritus, MdHS.

November 10: An Evening with Amanda Foreman
Amanda Foreman will discuss her most recent publication, A World on Fire: Britain’s Crucial Role in the American Civil War. Foreman is an award-winning historian and internationally best selling author. Her previous book, Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire, was the basis for the movie The Duchess starring Keira Knightly and Ralph Fiennes.
