The Calvert Marine Museum is pleased to be hosting a photography exhibit by local art students from Northern High School. Under the guidance of art instructor, Laura Rozengota, and visiting artist, Bob Tinari, the Advanced Photography and AP Studio Art students were able to get a new perspective by visiting the grounds of the Calvert Marine Museum.

“Students were able to put into practice what they’ve been learning by going to a local place that they have visited many times on their own. Going as a group allowed them to look through artists’ eyes for a deeper appreciation,” said Rozengota. Nearly 40 students participated and museum staff was very impressed with all of artwork; Stephanie Dowell, Carly Huseman and Rebecca Johnson received honorable mentions.

Additionally, the work of Carly Huseman has been chosen by the Calvert County Board of Education to be on display at the Baltimore Washington International Airport for one year. This project was made possible through a grant from the Arts Council of Calvert County and the Maryland State Arts Council.

The official opening was held on Saturday, December 10 with art students, families and local residents in attendance. “We really enjoy reaching out to the students especially when it has to do with local history,” said Exhibit Curator, Jim Langley. “We liked it so much that we’d like to do it again and base it on one of the museum’s three themes,” said Langley.

The exhibit will be on display in the museum lobby through February 17, 2012 and is open to everyone. Visit the Calvert Marine Museum Facebook page to see the photos.
