The contest challenges children to come up with a healthy, tasty, and affordable recipe for the will have 56 winners, one from each state and territory. Each recipe has to fall within the nutrition guidelines from Choosemyplate.gov, but the mini-chefs have a little bit of flexibility as the winning recipe can either be a full meal (The New York Times gave the example of roasted baby carrots with grilled tofu and black beans) or a single dish (such as whole-wheat pizza with chicken, onions, and peppers), but it must include most of the food groups (vegetables, whole grains, protein, dairy, and fruit).

Recipes are due by June 17th, with the winners being notified in mid-July. The winners will win a trip to Washington, D.C., and an invitation to the just-for-kids "state dinner" in August. Read more information and submit recipes here.
