This Saturday, the Chesapeake Bay Foundation will host its annual fundraiser, Bands in the Sand. There, you'll be able to check out some great live music, cool down with refreshing drinks, and dive into mouthwatering grilled food. Plus, you could even win a Piaggo Vespa S scooter.
If you're missing St. Patrick's day, then you'll definitely want to head to Maryland Ave. and State Circle for the Maryland Avenue Irish Festival on Sunday. This old-fashioned street festival features local merchants and vendors offering art, antiques, fashion, jewelry, and crafts. There'll also be plenty of food and children's activities, as well as great live performances by Crossing Celtic, Up On Blocks, and The Brigette Michaels Band.
Over on the Shore, the Academy Art Museum will commemorate the date when slaves in Galveston, TX first received word of the Emancipation Proclamation with their Juneteenth Celebration. Attendees of the Saturday event will enjoy a performance of African dance, songs by the Sombarkin trio and local church choirs, a reading of the Emancipation Proclamation, and more. The Avalon will also screen Double Victory, and will host a panel discussion with Tuskegee Airmen. Activities are family-friendly, so be sure to bring the kids.
Boat lover? Head to the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels. Now through Sunday, the museum will host the Antique and Classic Boat Festival. The largest of its kind in the mid-Atlantic region, the festival features more than 100 antique and classic boats. Other highlights include boat building demonstrations, maritime artists and craftsmen, craft vendors, classic used boats, motors, and a nautical flea market. Plus, there's plenty of live music, food, and activities.
