On Saturday, Eastport a Rockin’ will fill Back Creek and Second St. in Eastport with a full day of entertainment, food, drinks, crafts, street performers, and live music. Up-and-coming local bands with a wide range of styles will display their talents on three stages, and a special kids’ area will definitely keep your little ones entertained.

And, in case you haven’t heard, one of America’s favorite satirical performing groups, the Capitol Steps, are heading to our area. Tomorrow night, they’ll set up shop at Severna Park High School. Come hear their take on the current state of American politics, and be ready to laugh.

If you’d like something specific to do with the family, though, then head to Maryland Hall on Sunday. As part of their Free Movie Series, they’re screening the ever-popular family-favorite, Shrek. You know the story—a green ogre discovers his swamp has been "swamped" with all sorts of fairytale creatures by the scheming Lord Farquaad, and sets out, with a very loud donkey by his side, to "persuade" Farquaad to give his swamp back. Of course, that’s not at all what happens.

Over on the Shore, the Chestertown Lions Club hosting its annual Bay to Bay Ride on Sunday. Consisting of five routes between 27 and 104 miles in length, the ride raises funds for Leader Dogs for the Blind. Registration closes tonight at 8 p.m., so move fast!

There’s also still time to head to AQUA Pools in Easton to take part in their Charity Duck Race. The event, which takes place tonight (Friday) at 6 p.m., combines an evening of outstanding family fun with excellent odds of winning a new hot tub. Funds raised go towards the James M. Bryan “Building Dreams for Youth” Foundation.

For a $30 donation, participants enter the rubber duck of their choice in a race across the vanishing edge pool at AQUA. The first duck over the edge wins its racer a Hot Spot SX, valued at $5,000.

Feeling a little peckish? Head to D.C. On Saturday and Sunday, the Safeway Barbecue Battle will draw competitors from all over the country to compete for prize money and bragging rights. A celebration of the art of barbecue, the event includes delicious treats from top vendors and plenty of free samples. Other highlights include cooking demonstrations, appearances by celebrity chefs, talent shows, the BBQ Bazaar Marketplace, live entertainment, and more. This year’s musical headliners include Soul Asylum, ConFunkShun, and Cowboy Mouth.
