The 2012 Dew Tour

Aug 01, 2012 07:07PM ● By Anonymous

A partnership between Alli Sports, based in Chicago, Illinois, and Mountain Dew, the Dew Tour features extreme action sports such as BMX and skateboarding. For 2012, organizers plan to reshape the event to better showcase action sports in three large-scale, premium and ‘grand-slam’-style events.

Ocean City is the first stop of three, with the tour moving on to San Francisco, California, and Breckenridge, Colorado, after the initial beach showdown. Each event will include expanded and new sports and disciplines, as well as live music and a new “Dew Tour Experience,” which will bring all aspects of action sports culture to life, according to a press release.

2011 was the tour’s inaugural year in Ocean City, bringing approximately 73,000 people into its entrance on the sand near the Boardwalk, the highest ever attendance for a Dew Tour stop since it began in 2005. It was estimated that approximately 320,000 visitors came to Ocean City that July weekend, which is a seven percent increase over the same weekend in 2010. Photographer Rob Korb was on site at last year’s event capturing all the action.

This year’s event was moved to mid-August for 2012, coinciding with a time of year when tourism attendance is historically slightly lower in Ocean City. If you’re not able to make your way to the beach for the weekend, more than 30 hours of live coverage will air on NBC and the NBC Sports Network (which owns Alli Sports). There will also be extensive video coverage on NBCsports.com and Allisports.com. For additional information about the tour, such as how to get tickets, visit Allisports.com.
