Make This Valentine's Day Special

For my husband, I usually get up early and make him something to take to work. This is a feat because the guy is out the door at 6:15 a.m. Let me just tell you, it doesn't matter how easy that cookie recipe is. I will mess something up at 5 a.m. He never complains, although once I got a text message that asked if I had put avocado in the brownies. I hadn't, but that didn't explain what I had done.

Every person has their own wants and needs on Valentine's Day. Some like champagne and flowers, others want to soak in a rose petal-lined bath. I have friends who compete in Ironman triathlons, and their idea of the perfect Valentine's Day is to go out and ride 100 miles together and then watch reality television with their supplement shakes. Another friend simply asked her husband to be in charge of putting all three kids to bed so that she could finish reading Cosmopolitan. Because there's nothing more romantic on Valentine's Day than reading about how to be romantic on Valentine's Day, right?

It takes all types, is what I'm saying.

There are tons of ways to make this Valentine's Day special for you and a special someone. Whether that special someone is a spouse, a significant other, a BFF, a second cousin randomly in from out of town, or even your three kids who haven't allowed you to finish a magazine in nine years, Valentine's Day is a moment to give someone a little extra attention. And lucky for us, there are plenty of places around town offering up great excuses to get off the couch and away from the box of chocolates.

Fado Irish Pub is having a party on Saturday for all the singletons among us. Their "Tag n Shag" theme (not to be taken literally) will pair you up with another lucky someone at the bar for some Valentines Day fun without the long term commitment. Whether or not your partner sticks around until the 14th, or even the 10th, really, is up to you.

Prana Yoga Studio is offering a 2 for $20 Yoga special on the 14th. You don't have to be married, or dating, or even related. Just bring in a friend for a good, sweaty time on your mat.

Annapolis Boutique Day Spa is offering a "Buy 2, Get 2 Free" special, giving you an even better reason to book that couple's massage.

Red Red Wine Bar brings in local cupcake baker extraordinaire Whipped to pair five wines with three flavors of the sweet treat. It's fun and different and sounds so totally appealing, which is why we love this place.

Metropolitan Kitchen and Lounge  has one of the more underrated happy hours around, so we know that this 5-course dinner will be nothing short of spectacular. Be sure to make a reservation, though, because for only $60 (which is seriously cheaper than groceries these days) you know they'll book up quickly.

The Severn Inn has a special menu for Valentine's Day, complete with meals meant for sharing such as the Cheateaubriand and Shellfish Platter for Two.This is sure be one of the more memorable meals of your lifetime, so make sure you bring along someone special.

Rams Head in Annapolis is having parties for both the lovers and the loners among us. The Valentines Day dinner brings forth a special menu paired with a nice champagne special, sure to get you in the amorous mood. But the Cupid is Stupid party is sure to be a good time as well, with drink specials and the music of Pressing Strings. Either way, Rams Head is always a good time, so you know you can't miss out.
