Industry pros tell us there’s something from the color wheel for everyone this spring. If you’re all about splash, you’re in luck: color blocking expands from dress prints to head-to-toe blocking, with colorful tops, bottoms, and accessories.
And the palette is absolutely cheerful—one local boutique owner says to think “colors of sorbet:” mint stands supreme (fun fact: Pantone named emerald the 2013 color of the year); and bright coral and lemon, and creamy, soft raspberry are popping up all over.
If you prefer a more conservative palette, don’t fret: the monochromatic look is in—and white is in full force. What’s more glamorous than white on white? We think nothing. For a chic, sophisticated look, try combining black and white, which expert forecasters agree will be huge this spring—the combo lends perfectly to the touches of leather we’ll continue to see as we shed our heavy winter garb and head into warmer months.
But it’s not all about solids. Prints reign. In fact, the biggest trends for spring include stripes (and other geometric prints), and fl orals. Layer them up: fl oral on fl oral, and stripes on stripes. Tip: To achieve the look, pair differently sized prints, and mix stripe orientation, like vertical with horizontal.
This spring, printed denim continues to offer a fun alternative to blue jeans, and the bold tribal prints from fall evolve into softer ethnic patterns. Crisp, architectural ruffles (as opposed to frillier versions) will make a bold statement. In other areas, what the pros call “boudoir chic,”—black and nude structured (corset-like) lace tops will push the envelope—but we expect to see that minimally in our region.
