DIY Coffee Syrups

A Christmas breakfast requires lots and lots of hot coffee. After all, you need to keep up your energy for present opening and toy assembling. Try one of these coffee syrups - mocha, coconut or gingerbread - for an extra zing to your morning Joe.


For coconut:
2 cups water
1 cup sugar
2 Tbsp. coconut extract

For mocha:
2 cups water
1 cup sugar
2-3 Tbsp. chocolate syrup

For gingerbread:
2 cups water
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 3/4 tsp. ground ginger
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. vanilla


For all syrups, combine water and sugar in a pan. Bring to a boil then turn to medium low. Add in the next ingredients (extract, syrup or spices) and stir well to completely combine. Allow to simmer five to ten minutes until it takes on a thicker, syrup consistency. Remove from heat and cool completely before transferring to jars.
