Brion Harris is a founder and managing partner of Premier Planning Group (PPG) and has been helping people at or near retirement age to manage their assets and plan for their retirement for nearly 17 years. Brion began his career with AXA Advisors in Baltimore, MD in 1997 and left in 2000 to create Premier Planning Group with his father, Dan Harris.

Brion speaks frequently on investment topics, coaching retirees throughout the community as well as to other top financial advisors in the industry. Brion is an active member of the Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT), which provides its members with resources to improve their technical knowledge, sales and clients services while maintaining a culture of high ethical standards. As part of this association, Brion has also been referenced in Forbes magazine, National Underwriter, Advisor Today and the Annapolis Capital.

Brion is very focused on a certain demographic, ages 55 and up, and has a real expertise in that area. Specifically, Brion focuses mainly on preparing his clients as they lead up to retirement, while continuing to provide advice throughout the distribution phase of retirement. He helps his clients to have a plan and a process in place with the goal of maintaining a lifestyle that they are comfortable with in retirement.

Holistic Planning:

Brion has built a team of strategic partnerships and dedicated staff that is second to none. They are what you call a full service holistic planning firm. Brion often shares with his clients that retirement planning these days is like trying to climb Mount Everest. It takes years of preparation, discipline and focus to get to the top (or in Retirement Planning, to save enough money to carry clients throughout retirement). Most climbers who try to get to the top of Mount Everest don’t run into problems on the way up the mountain, but rather on the way back down. This analogy is very true for Retirement Planning as well; most retirees don’t fail accumulating assets, most retirees fail on the way back down (during the distribution phase). Many people fail to take into consideration the multiple dangers during the distribution phase, such as longevity, inflation, taxes, market volatility, health risks and sequence of returns. Not enough retirees are taking the time to crunch the numbers to analyze how long their money will last at different rates of return, inflation rates, and dollar amounts.

Brion starts most relationships with a proprietary process he calls the Family Index. “Once you have clarity around a client’s existing family index (i.e., how long their money is going to last), it makes it easier to go out and find the appropriate products to solve the clients financial picture.” Working with an expert like Brion will help to ensure that you’ve got the knowledge and plan in place to make that very important journey back down the mountain. A lot of his clients have started referring to Brion as their “Retirement Sherpa.”

When speaking to a group of new prospects, Brion will often leave them with one question: “Are there any of you who are so happy with your advice and service that you are getting from your existing retirement advisor that you’ve ever written them a hand-written ‘Thank You’ note?” Whether it’s an audience of 100 or 20, very few hands ever go up.
