Nicholas D. Capousis is a graduate of Alfred University and Syracuse College of Law. Upon graduation from Alfred, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army, with a tour of duty in Vietnam, and was promoted to the rank of Captain during his term of service. After graduation from law school and relocating to Virginia, he established his law practice in 1977 as a solo practitioner in general trial practice with a focus in criminal law and civil litigation, including personal injury and business transactions. His practice, which he expanded to Maryland in 1986, evolved into a concentration of years of experience in family law and related areas of divorce, alimony, domestic violence and all child custody related issues.

Nick has maintained an active law practice for more than 35 years. He has been recognized by Martindale Hubbell as a BV rated attorney by his peers for professionalism and ethics. Nick has been a member of the Character Committee of the Court of Appeals of Maryland since 1998.

In 1999, after years of experience in representing clients in legal matters, Nick complemented his practice by becoming a certified mediator, having received alternative dispute resolution training at the Harvard Law School Program of Instruction for Lawyers. He has been a Court certified mediator in child custody and marital property matters on the Anne Arundel County Circuit Court mediation panel since 2000, and has mediated over 1,000 Court ordered andprivate mediations.

By adding the constructive platform of alternative dispute resolution in mediation to his practice, Nick provides an opportunity for his clients to resolve personal and sensitive family matters with greater self-determination for resolution and settlement in contrast to a traditional adversarial judicial process that can lead to a more uncertain outcome and involve greater resource expenditures in terms of time and money.

Nick remains committed to serving his clients, to problem solve even the most unique personal matters, in a way that supports their needs and attains their objectives, whether through negotiation or mediation as a neutral third party, or through traditional litigation. His multi-level approach has brought a high degree of successful resolution to even the most challenging of issues and in that process, has created satisfied clients.
