What’s in My NutriBullet?

This week’s NutriBullet drink comes right out of the NutriBullet User Guide & Recipe Book. Described as a drink that can “flush toxins from your body” it seemed the perfect choice to go with this week’s detox theme.

I use a red Bartlett for the pear component. It has a nice crisp texture and perfect juicy sweetness. The D’Anjou pear (pictured) is another good choice. I use honey crisp for the apple component because they’re my all-time favorite. If you’re like me, and don’t want to deal with peeling a pineapple you can opt for precut pineapple chunks available in most grocery stores.

All the ingredients in this drink have immense health and detoxing benefits. In synopsis, pears are rich in antioxidants; pineapples are a known anti-inflammatory; apples help detoxify the liver; bananas are pectin-rich which helps remove toxins and heavy metals from the body; spinach makes you look like Popeye (is loaded with iron).

I add chia seeds to this “delicious, fruity concoction” for a “power boost”, or so the NutriBullet wizards call it. Chia seeds are great because they are virtually undetectable in blended drinks. Just a small amount delivers a ton of nutrients with very few calories: antioxidants, protein, fiber, and omega-3 fatty acids to name a few. Personally, I feel they help me feel more full throughout the day.

This drink is so, so good. It’s smooth with just the right amount of sweetness. The bright green color might look unappealing to some, but to me, it’s more like a big, inviting cup of pure energy and nutrition. If you aren’t a fan of the intense green shade, don’t worry; you won’t even notice it while you drink, it’s that yummy. Just remember to use whole, unprocessed foods for the best results.

Ingredients- Serves 2
  • 1-2 handfuls of rinsed spinach
  • 1 cored pear
  • 1 banana
  • 1 cored apple
  • 1 cup of pineapple
  • Generous spoonful of Chia seeds
  • Water
Fill NutriBullet with ingredients and blend until smooth. If desired, pour over ice.
