Inside the Event: Fish For a Cure Fishing Tournament and Shore Party

Nov 05, 2014 09:47AM ● By Becca Newell

Fish for a day, party for a night - all for a great cause - at the Fish For a Cure Fishing Tournament and Shore Party on Saturday, November 8th. Starting at sunrise, fishermen will head out onto the Chesapeake Bay for a day of fishing, returning at 4 p.m. for the weigh-in at Pusser's Caribbean Grille in Annapolis.

While fisherman compete to bring in the largest rockfish, heaviest string of perch, or any three unique species (for the Grand Slam category), they also compete for bragging rights in the Captain's Challenge - a fundraising competition in which each Captain is asked to raise as much as they can to benefit the Geaton and JoAnn DeCesaris Cancer Institute.

If fishing isn't really your thing, but partying is, you're in luck! Following the tournament and weigh-in is the Shore Party at 6 p.m. at the Annapolis Waterfront Marriott. Read on for more details about the party that's quickly becoming one of Annapolis' 'must attend' events!

The Basics:

Date: Saturday, November 8th

Time: Weigh-in begins at 4 p.m.; Shore Party from 6 to 10 p.m.

Location: Weigh-in at Pusser's Caribbean Grille; Shore Party at the Annapolis Waterfront Marriott - both located at 80 Compromise Street in Annapolis

The Details:

What can guests expect? After spending the day on the Chesapeake Bay, fisherman will bring in their catch to be weighed at Pusser's Caribbean Grille. "It's a great opening to the evening," says Alexis Arizzi, PR/media Fish For a Cure. "The energy is high and everyone is excited for the evening ahead." The Shore Party begins at 6 p.m., with live music, a silent auction, and raffles. The winner of the Captain's Challenge will be announced later in the evening, too.

Food and drinks? You certainly won't be leaving this party on an empty stomach - ticket price includes an extensive, deluxe buffet and - perhaps even better -  an open bar!

What about parking? There's plenty of public parking throughout downtown Annapolis. Occasionally, there is valet service available at the Marriott, but it's best to call (410-268-7555) in advance to check.

The dress code? It's time to celebrate after a day of fishing (and fundraising!) so your attire should be casual-chic. Think dressy, but a little more on the comfortable side!

Are tickets still available? Tickets are $100 and still available, but they're going fast! They can be purchased prior to the party at https://fishforacure.org/register/party and if any are available that evening, they can be purchased at the door.

Where do the proceeds go?  Fish For a Cure donates funds to direct patient support and survivorship programs at the Geaton and DeCesaris Cancer Center at Anne Arundel Medical Center. After raising an impressive $250,000 in 2013, Fish For a Cure is now only $400,000 away from meeting its $1 million pledge to AAMC.
