Rhea’s Rundown

Serve up some sublime summer refreshment with this sweet tea mint julep. Bourbon adds subtle notes of vanilla to mellow earl grey tea that’s been steeped in simple syrup. The drink is brightened with fresh lime juice and mint leaves while sparkling wine provides a little effervescence. Kickback with a pitcher of this on the back porch with friends and let the good times roll.

Ingredients – Serves 8
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ water
  • 4 Earl Grey tea bags
  • 1 (1-ounce) package fresh mint (about 1 cup)
  • 1/3 cup fresh lime juice
  • 1 ¾ cups chilled sparkling wine
  • Mint sprigs (optional)
  • Bourbon

1. Combine sugar and ½ cup water in a microwave-safe bowl; microwave at HIGH for 3 minutes. Stir until sugar dissolves. Add tea bags and mint to sugar syrup; steep 20 minutes. Remove tea bags and mint; discard. Stir in bourbon and juice; chill. Pour tea mixture into a pitcher; stir in sparkling wine. Garnish with mint sprigs, if desired. Serve immediately.
