Members of Annapolis' own band, Swampcandy made news on Roanoke, Virginia television station WDBJ7 this morning to promote their gig opening for none other than rock legend and recent Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Joan Jett of The Runaways fame and Joan Jett & The Blackhearts.

Swampcandy is a primitive Blues influenced Americana band with Ruben Dobbs on Guitar and Vocals, Joey Mitchell on Standup Bass and Kickdrum, and the recent addition of Dominic Fragman on Drums. They play gritty foot stompin’ originals and cite such Blues influences as Robert Johnson and Son House. Swampcandy hits the stage at 6:15 p.m. tonight at Elmood Park with Joan Jett & The Blackhearts headlining.

Joey Mitchell and Dominic Fragman talk about their brand of music, Swampcandy’s recent FloydFest appearance, and how they are excited to open the show. Joey Mitchell notes, “Its Joan Jett! She’s a Rock icon. It’s going to be amazing! ” CBS News Affiliate introduces the band as an “area favorite”. See video of the interview in the player below or here. Their newest album, Land is available for digital download on their website. For more information on Swampcandy visit Swampcandy.com  When they’re not touring the globe, you can find them Tuesdays at 10 p.m. at Rams Head Tavern in Annapolis among other local and regional venues. Swampcandy has been the #1 rated global Americana band by ReverbNation a total of three times within the past year! We are extremely lucky to have such an immensely talented trailblazing band in our backyard.
