The Navy Midshipmen made history Saturday as they sailed to a 45-21 victory over the East Carolina Pirates in their first game as a member of the American Athletic Conference. Navy’s spent the previous 134 seasons as an independent.

Senior quarterback Keenan Reynolds continued to build on his impressive career numbers by running for 142 yards and five touchdowns. Reynolds, the NCAA leader in rushing touchdowns by a quarterback, moved up to fourth all-time for the most by any player. He trails former Texas running back Ricky Williams by only two touchdowns for third place.

Navy running back Chris Swain carried the ball 29 times for 123 yards and a touchdown. As a team, Navy ran for 415 yards.

Pirates quarterback Blake Kemp completed 36 of 49 passes for 325 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Isaiah Jones caught 10 passes for 130 yards and tight end Bryce Williams caught two touchdowns for ECU.

Motocross star and Annapolis native Travis Pastrana was on hand to enjoy the momentous victory. He and fellow Nitro Circus stars signed autographs for fans at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.

The Mids improved to 2-0 on the season and continue conference play next Saturday at UConn. Navy is seeking its first 3-0 start since 2006.
