Diverse Music at Rams Head On Stage Delivers!
That’s A Wrap! What’s Up? Re-Cap: Robert Glasper’s Other-worldly Notes SoarRobert Glasper played a packed house at Rams Head On Stage Monday, December 21st. Grammy Award-winning Glasper is an accomplished musician, composer, musical director, and jazz pianist who pushes the limits of musical experimentation. Upon hearing his musical creations, ears were awestruck! Robert Glasper has long kept one foot planted firmly in jazz and the other in hip-hop and R&B. He’s worked extensively with living hip-hop legend, Q-Tip. Glasper’s extensive knowledge of music makes for a fascinating listen. The audience enjoyed being surprised as he dropped musical references, quoting famous classical and jazz composers. He uses a musical reference as a launching pad to create a variation on a theme that expands into Glasper’s otherworldly unique style. It’s not a gimmick. It’s an experiment in electro, neo-soul, hip-hop, and jazz-funk.
Everyone enjoyed the show even the die-hard fans lined up in seating against the back wall. Don’t miss Glasper the next time he performs in Annapolis. He is truly a phenomenal musical genius! His new album Covered is out now, which features songs by John Legend, Musiq Soulchild, Radiohead, Joni Mitchell, and a stirring collaboration with legendary singer/activist Harry Belafonte. – Melissa Lauren
Give a listen to both captivating artists who play real music. Freedy Johnston is a gifted songwriter whose lyrics paint portraits of characters. He established himself in the early ‘90s as a critically acclaimed singer/songwriter. Jeffrey Gaines has been heralded for his soul-searching lyrics and powerful performances.
