Get Outside! The Croquet match is this Saturday! Spring is around the corner so it is time to venture outside! Events that celebrate the natural beauty around us are highlighted. The Big Read starts this Saturday! Plus, shop for bejeweled gifts at the Charmed by Charity Soiree fundraising event. And Broadneck Grill hosts an appetizing wine dinner. Be a winner! Anne Arundel County Events

34th Annual St. John’s College vs. U.S. Naval Academy Croquet Match

Saturday, April 16th, Gates open at 10 a.m. The game starts at 1 p.m. The “Johnnies” and the “Mids” vie for the coveted Annapolis Cup during this annual rite of spring. The croquet match brings together two starkly different institutions for an event Sports Illustrated says “has no parallel in intercollegiate sports”. Attendees dress “Great-Gatsby”-style while enjoying a lavish lawn party.

The Big Read kicks off this Saturday!

Annapolis and Anne Arundel County's month-long program, The Big Read kicks off this Saturday. A program of the National Endowment for the Arts, The Big Read broadens understanding of the world and communities through the joy of sharing a good book. The Big Read supports organizations across the country in developing community-wide reading programs which encourage reading and participation by diverse audiences. Chesapeake Conservancy hosts Welcome Back Osprey Party

Tuesday, April 19th at 4 p.m. The Chesapeake Conservancy, whose popular osprey webcam featuring “Tom and Audrey” has attracted attention worldwide, will host a "Welcome Back Osprey Party" for members of the organization's Osprey Club. Members of the public who would like to attend, but are not currently members of the Osprey Club, may do so by joining the Osprey Club with a fully tax-deductible donation of $100.

Earth Day Expo 2016 at Quiet Waters Park

Saturday, April 16th 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Celebrate the environment with educational and volunteer activities. Visit with local vendors and businesses who are promoting environmental sustainability and awareness. This year there will be Junior Park Ranger activities for children ages 4-12. Park entry is free during the event. Friends of Quiet Waters Park are hosting a Run for Nature 5K at 9 a.m.

A Charmed by Charity Soiree hosted by Alex and Ani

Saturday, April 19th at 5 p.m. Sip refreshments, snack on small bites, and shop with others who share your passion for giving back. 15% of all proceeds will be support Langton Green, Inc., an organization that serves individuals with developmental disabilities.

April Wine Dinner

Hosted by Broadneck Grill and Cantina (Cape St. Claire location) Monday, April 18th at 7 p.m. featuring wines from J. Lohr Estates. The menu includes Curried Carrot Coconut Soup paired with Riesling, Shrimp & Broccoli Scampi Paired with Chardonnay, and Flourless Chocolate Tart with Raspberry Sauce paired with Los Osos Merlot. No RSVP required.

Eastern Shore Events

All Audubon Day in the Marsh at Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge

Presented by Pickering Creek Audubon Center, Saturday, April 16th at 9:30 a.m. The day will feature marsh grass planting and exploration in the morning with staff from Audubon and the US Fish and Wildlife Service staff. The day will be a great opportunity to connect with great scientists and other bird enthusiasts and make a difference for birds in our state.

6th Annual America’s VetDogs Annapolis/Kent Island Run & Dog Walk

Sunday, April 17th at 7:30 a.m. This event leaves from Kent Island High School and tours the beautiful Cross Island Trail. Participants can run in a 10K or 5K timed race or can take a 2-mile family-friendly walk with or without their pup. All proceeds will assist America’s VetDogs mission to help veterans with disabilities live a life without boundaries.

National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade

Saturday, April 16th at 10 a.m. One of DC’s largest spectator events, the energy-filled National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade® presented by Events DC runs for 10 blocks along iconic Constitution Avenue. Giant colorful helium balloons, elaborate floats, marching bands from across the country, celebrity entertainers, and performers burst down the Parade route in a grand spectacle of music and showmanship seen only once a year during the Festival.
