Homes on the Eastern Shore can represent the best of both worlds—offering homeowners not only lavish amenities but also a relaxing lifestyle near the water. In this issue of What’s Up? with Real Estate, we profile two properties that are truly dream homes, beginning with Wickman Estate.
The epitome of luxury, this stunning waterfront estate could easily be described as regal, featuring magnificent amenities fit for royalty. The red-brick colonial home boasts stately white pillars and is situated on more than 100 acres of private property, including 50,000 feet of shoreline and 80 acres of farmland. The property, which also includes a boat house, small barn, and a pond, was listed on December 15th, 2014, and closed on November 2nd, 2015.
The home’s interior spaces are equally luxurious. The elegant grand foyer features a spiral staircase, marble floors, molding, and a crystal chandelier. Large Palladian windows with exquisite trim and two-story-high ceilings provide natural light, creating a welcoming atmosphere in the living and dining rooms. The main kitchen, complemented by the prep kitchen and butler’s pantry, offers ideal accommodations for entertaining guests. The home also includes a library and two studies.
A relaxing escape, the master’s retreat features abundant windows, custom bookcases, large sitting areas, and a wood-burning marble fireplace. The marble-lined bathroom includes a whirlpool bath with golden swan fixtures and his-and-her vanities. The home also includes three additional bedrooms, with their own bathrooms, spacious closets, and picture windows, as well as an in-law suite with a large great room, full kitchen, two bedrooms, and bathroom. A separate Tenant House is located on the south side of the property.
“The property itself is just so ideal,” says DeeDee McCracken of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage, the listing and selling agent for the home. “It would be perfect for a bed and breakfast, wedding venue, corporate retreat, or a stunning private estate—with the benefit of agricultural taxes. [It’s] just a gorgeous private setting. Even the location is incredibly convenient. [It’s] truly a rare find.”
The property grounds offer opportunities for outdoor recreation, including boating, fishing, swimming, and horseback riding. An indoor recreation area features a lap pool, exercise loft, spa, sauna, bar, and stone fireplace.

This beautiful villa, located in Oyster Cove, a gated private waterfront community at Kent Narrows, offers breathtaking views and luxurious amenities. The property, which was listed on August 28th, 2015, sold on February 26th, 2016, after 116 days on the market—despite entering the market during the late fall/early winter season. This is especially noteworthy because it indicates that the “out-of-season” days on market are impressive for this community.
A picturesque community, Oyster Cove includes 106 townhouses, 96 villas, and two marinas, offering 115 boat slips. The grounds are available for use by the residents and include a clubhouse, picnic area, pool, tennis courts, and walking path.
The third-level (top level), corner waterfront unit, which includes an open floor plan with nine-foot ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows, features a master suite with a dressing room, walk-in closet, and large bath. The property also includes a private balcony—perfect for enjoying the magnificent views and glorious sunsets—and a 45-foot deeded boat slip.
Perhaps one of the primary selling points of the villa was that it was fully-staged, making the décor more modern and stylish. Jennifer Chaney, the owner of Chaney Homes, LLC and a certified staging professional and decorator (as well as the property’s listing agent), knew that staging the somewhat dated interior would be a game changer.
To give the villa an updated look, she selected new flooring: a wide-plank vinyl with long runs to make the combined living/dining spaces seem larger. The floors now look like white-washed wood—ideal for the waterfront setting. She also chose custom paint colors for each room.
“The fresh, stylish palette created the backdrop for me to decorate, and this was the fun part!” says Chaney. “Like playing dollhouse with my company’s inventory, I selected pieces that created an open, airy, comfortable flow from room to room, while also creating the feel of a beach getaway—conveniently located at Kent Narrows. This villa exemplifies the true magnificence of our island, boasting top-notch amenities to live the easy, upscale life we all desire.”
