A Waterfront Dream: The attraction of river views, recreation, and amenities is evident in this case study

With its sweeping 180-degree views across the Magothy River to Gibson Island on to the Chesapeake Bay, this 3,000-plus-square foot residence in the exclusive enclave of Bayberry in Arnold is a waterfront homeowner’s dream.

Sitting on one and a quarter maturely landscaped acres, the custom-designed home, recently bought by a single gentleman in the import/export business, was move-in ready (though the new homeowner is making some of his own customizations).
Built in 1999, this open floor plan contemporary home (especially striking when floodlit after sundown) with a soaring two-story foyer was built to take advantage of the spectacular waterfront setting. All the rooms on the main level, from the dining room that opens to the great room with wood-burning fireplace to the gourmet kitchen, look out on the hard-to-find waterside pool, extensively landscaped grounds, and river. The main level also includes a living room—views included, of course, courtesy of the expansive windows that stream natural light throughout the day—with built-in bookshelves, a home office, and a full bath that leads to the pool area and then down to the private dock site and pier. Upstairs, the four-to-five bedroom home includes a master suite with wrap-around water views and deluxe bathroom, a second bedroom with en suite bath, and two additional bedrooms that share a hall bath.
The finished lower level includes a spacious game room, another full bath, kitchen, and possible bedroom, ideal for long-term guests (or permanent visitors who can’t bring themselves to leave).

“The new owner was looking for a waterfront home with a big view in a nice neighborhood,” says Joe Bray, waterfront specialist with Charlie Buckley’s Mr. Waterfront Team of Long & Foster Real Estate in Annapolis. “This home offered just about everything most waterfront buyers are looking for: A big view, a waterside pool, privacy, and a nice home with quality finishes.”
