Define, Line & Highlight: Applications for Extraordinary Eyes

One of the many benefits of summer is the ability to—on occasion, at least—forgo the eye makeup in place of designer sunglasses. But shades or not, we might as well primp our eyes to look their best—after all, we’re not Ms. Wintour and inevitably we’ll have to ditch the sunnies. Fear not. These non-invasive remedies for aging eyes will have you wishing for overcast days where tinted lenses aren’t necessary.

It’s difficult to deny that big brows are in—and they’re achievable, even for those of us with little to work with. One of the simplest ways to fake a fuller, natural-looking brow is to define with colored powder or gel. Be sure to use a shade that closely matches your brow, although a slightly lighter hue will help to add definition. Fill any remaining sparse areas with an eyebrow pencil, using a feathering technique to replicate each hair strand. Again, opt for a shade slightly lighter than your brow color and remember to draw delicately. Blend with a spoolie brush to remove any harsh lines and apply a little translucent powder above and below the eyebrow to add further definition.

NOMAD x Florence Beauty Palette $47,

The contouring trend has become so popular, its application is now used beyond the face, enhancing areas of the body, like the stomach, décolletage, and eyes. It might seem a little too “Hollywood,” but a little highlighting and shading on the eyes can work wonders—and it’s simple. Apply a matte eyeshadow that matches your skin tone across the entire eyelid to even any discoloration, followed by a lighter hue with a little shimmer. Add a dark shade along the crease of the lid, blending slightly toward the lash line, but steering clear of closing the outer and inner corners of the eye. Accentuate the upper and lower lash lines with a dark eyeliner and add some iridescent shimmer to the inner corner of the eye, as well as a dusting underneath the brow bone. (As for those other body parts in need of definition, we’ll happily stick with sunless tanning to hide any imperfections!)

Lids by Design Variety Pack $39.95,

If contouring isn’t enough to save drooping eyelids, look no further than this creation from Lids by Design. Double-sided sticky strips, placed along the eyelid, instantly lift and reshape eyes. The dermatologist-tested, hypoallergenic corrective strips help to rectify excess or sagging skin and puffy eyelids, resulting in a beautifully natural, more youthful look. Available in a variety of sizes—from three to eight millimeters, offering slight to maximum enhancement, respectively—Lids by Design are an easy, all-day fix to aging eyes.

Not everyone is blessed with long, luscious eyelashes, but it’s relatively easy to fake ‘em! Whether it’s a set of falsies, semi-permanent extensions, or the tried-and-true eyelash curler with mascara, there’s unlimited options for stellar lashes. Strip or cluster fake eyelashes offer a relatively inexpensive, temporary solution to thinning, whereas semi-permanent extensions—though more costly—last about a month. These singular synthetic lashes (individually attached to existing eyelashes with FDA-approved adhesive) offer lasting glamour. Still, with a number of lash-lacquers on the market promising volume, length, and lift, our day-to-day favorites remain: the ever-faithful curling tool and mascara wand.

We love Blinc’s Mascara in Black $26,
