Hillman, Brown & Darrow (HBD) is a full-service law firm, with roots in Annapolis going back 88 years and located only steps from the seat of the State government, the Courthouse, and the Annapolis business district. The firm founders have been together for 38 years and the firm has now expanded to 11 attorneys, which allows them to support their emphasis as a full-service law firm.
The seeds of success were planted when founder, Noah A. Hillman, opened his practice in 1929, setting a good example of humanitarian and philanthropic activities, with his involvement in the community and the local government. The deep roots, traditions, and core values of Hillman & Hillman were continued when Samuel J. Brown and Michael P. Darrow joined forces and became Hillman, Brown & Darrow in 1979. While they continued to transform the practice originally founded on Noah Hillman’s standards, the partners, while different in their personalities, have a deep family history in Annapolis and have been the recipients of many awards over the years for their involvement in the community and through Anne Arundel County. The umbrella of Hillman, Brown & Darrow spreads throughout the county with substantial involvement with business activities, social organizations, religious organizations, educational foundations and establishments, historic preservation, involvement in issues regarding the founding fathers of this country, and deep involvement in the business and social fiber of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County. Each attorney who is involved in the firm is responsible for getting involved in a local community activity. They choose the activities they enjoy, whether it be working with Maryland Hall, serving on Boards of local banks, acting as advisory capacities to many business entities, working on the future of the libraries in Anne Arundel County, or letting the world know about Annapolis and its unparalleled history regarding the founding of this country and being deeply involved with the historical activities in Annapolis, the religious roots in Annapolis, and local professional associations.
The firm is comprised of five partners, five associates and one of counsel. These 11 attorneys all have similar goals and aspirations. They believe that lawyers have a responsibility to the community. They further believe that
