Walking through the doors of Candles Off Main and the ambiance sits just right as the aroma of the beautifully crafted candles captures your senses.
The walls are filled with colorful and unique jars, holding the carefully and strategically made candles. Placed in the middle of the room is a long table with 48 different jars, almost resembling a science experiment. Three tables are laid out with trays accompanied by a variation of utensils and instruction sheets.
This two-hour class gives you the opportunity for a very hands on, personal experience taught by owner Michael Waldon. As avid candle lovers, we decided it was time to try this out.
After a few lessons about candle making, your nose is off to the test! Walking around the table with your clip board, you have the chance to test 48 different smells, marking off your favorites and crossing out the ones you dislike. Once you think you’ve found the one, flip over the sheet and find out exactly what that smell is! Trust me, most people are surprised.
After deciding on your candle scent, you’ll receive the hot wax and your scent bottle. Once you’ve measured the right amount of liquid, because you don’t want an overpowering candle, you’ll mix in the wax and give it a big stir.
Now it’s time to add your wick, pour in the wax mixture, and watch the magic begin!
Waiting for your candle to form gives you the opportunity to peruse through the hundreds of candles, diffusers, and gift sets they have to offer. Who knows, maybe you’ll walk away with more than one!
Once the candle has formed, you’ll slap on a sticker and personalize it as your very own.
This is certainly a unique gift or a great chance for date night! What did we choose you may ask? Becca went with the calming scents of lemongrass and lavender while Nicole went with a sweeter scent of tropical sugared fruits. But don’t worry, with 48 different scents, there’s no doubt something will captivate your smelling senses.
Did we mention a very important part? The workshop is BYOB (Bring Your Own Booze), so bring some wine, sit back, relax, and enjoy the wonders of candle making!
Classes run through Saturday, July 29th. All class registration can be made through their website, CandlesOffMain.com. Have any questions? Give them a call at 410-990-0664.
