The task wasn’t easy, but we at What’s Up? take our assignments very seriously. We spent over two weeks drinking our way through the Greater Annapolis area to find you, our valued reader, the best place to have your own little Cinco de Mayo fiesta.

Tee Up for a Child Golf Tournament – Eisenhower Golf Club
Thursday, May 3rd, 8 a.m.–3:30 p.m.

Derby Day – Maryland Therapeutic Riding
Saturday, May 5th, 5–9:30 p.m.
Join Maryland Therapeutic Riding for a night of Horses, Healing and Hope as we raise funds for life-changing equine-based therapy for children and adults with special needs. Maryland Therapeutic Riding’s award-winning programs drastically improve the lives of those who have physical, developmental or emotional challenges. This unique event includes Live & Silent Auctions, Open Bar, Rider Demonstration, Live Showing of the Kentucky Derby, ​Hat Contest, Hors d'oeuvres, Dinner, Coffee & Dessert, and of course, Signature Mint Juleps!

Cinco de K-9 – Union Jack’s Annapolis
Saturday, May 5th, 7 p.m.
Head to Union Jack’s Annapolis to celebrate Cinco De Mayo and help raise money for the Chesapeake K-9 Fund. Enjoy live music by Signal 13 and Straight Shooter, raffles, door prizes, and a silent auction. Not to mention plenty of food and drink specials!

Walk for the Animals – Quiet Waters Park
Sunday, May 6th, 7:30 a.m.–1 p.m.
Each spring over two thousand friends of the SPCA and their pets join AASPCA in beautiful Quiet Rivers Park for their largest fundraiser. Enjoy a walk or fun run on measured courses in the park and explore the AASPCA’s large outdoor vendor festival.

Springfest – Ocean City Inlet

Springfest is four fun-filled days of live entertainment, clever art and crafts, and delicious food for the entire family! A free event, Springfest transforms Ocean City’s Inlet into a spring paradise with over 250 art & crafts and commercial vendors. Come for lunch or dinner and try the delicious food offerings at Springfest in the food and gourmet tent. 19th Annual Multicultural Festival – Idlewild Park, Easton
Saturday, May 5th, 10 a.m.–2 p.m.
The 19th Annual Multicultural Festival presented by the Avalon Foundation returns. This family-friendly event is full of activities, bands, food, and vendors! Originally created by Talbot County P.E.A.C.E. and debuting in 2000, the Multicultural Festival is a celebration of the rich diversity within our community, including the distinct heritages dating back several generations, and members of the numerous ethnic groups who have come to call this area their home. 

2018 Derby Day Gala – Talisman Therapeutic Riding, Grasonville
Saturday, May 5th, 4 p.m.
Come join Talisman Therapeutic Riding on Cinco De Mayo for their 7th Annual Derby Day Gala to celebrate their Grand Opening. Enjoy dinner and cocktails, rider demonstrations, and a live and silent auction. The event supports Talisman Therapeutic Riding and their effort to create a holistic wellness environment using the great outdoors and nature’s wildlife.

Six Pillars Century 2018 Blackwater Tour – Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge, Cambridge
Saturday, May 5th, 7 a.m.
Cycle the scenic back roads of picturesque Blackwater Wildlife Refuge in Dorchester County during the 10th annual Six Pillars Century Blackwater Tour fundraiser. Participants have a choice of three flat routes including 37 miles, 56-mile Ironman Eagleman course, or the 100-mile century course that takes you through quaint townships along the Chesapeake Bay and back through serene woodlands. Begin your day at Great Marsh Park for a complementary al fresco breakfast on the shores of the scenic Choptank River. Registration is required and proceeds will benefit Character Counts Mid Shore, Inc.

Salisbury Kidney Walk – Winter Park Place, Salisbury
Sunday, May 6th, 9 a.m.–1 p.m.
Step up to raise awareness of kidney disease, organ donation and the importance of early screening and healthy lifestyle. Join the National Kidney Foundation for this inspiring community fundraiser. In addition to the 3-mile walk (or optional shorter path), enjoy refreshments from Panera Bread, Giant and Starbucks, music by Moonbeam Entertainment and the Kidney Kids Corner with face painting and games. Proceeds will support NKF’s local patient services, education and research efforts.

Western Shore

AACC Dance Company: Spring Migration – Robert E. Kauffman Theater, Arnold

The Anne Arundel Community College Dance Company presents their spring performance, “Spring Migration”. Don’t miss this eclectic performance by the creative and talented members of the AACC Dance Company

First Annual Gator Day Spring Carnival – Davidsonville Park, Davidsonville 
Saturday, May 5th, 10 a.m.–8 p.m.
Bring the whole family to the First Annual Gator Day Spring Carnival. Participate in athletic competitions, clinics and combines. Enjoy fun games, food trucks, a silent auction, vendors, and music. Proceeds will benefit the Davidsonville Athletic Association. 

Second Annual Tipple and Toast Benefit Evening
Saturday, May 5th, 5–9:30 p.m.
The Friends of the Rising Sun Inn will host an evening of food and fun as they raise money to support the ongoing preservation projects at the pre-Revolutionary Rising Sun Inn. The evening includes hors d’oeuvres, a buffet dinner, cash wine bar, the Annapolis Town Crier, historical interpreters from Colonial Tours of Annapolis and SPAM time, and performances by harpist Jan Holland and the Annapolis Chorale’s Women’s Ensemble, Cantori. The dress is informal and the benefit will include a charity auction, wine and spoon pulls, and a raffle. 

Pawject Runway – Royal Farms Arena, Baltimore
Saturday, May 5th, 6 p.m.
Pawject Runway is the hippest fashion show on four paws, featuring a five-star lineup of Big Softies "modeling" adoptable cats and dogs from the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS).It's the only event where you can rub shoulders with famous faces from the NFL to the lacrosse field, rockers to race car drivers - all while cuddling fur balls over cocktails and gourmet treats, and browsing our curated, high-end silent auction items.

2018 Race for Hope DC – Freedom Plaza, Washington, D.C.
Sunday, May 6th, 8:30–10 a.m.
The Race for Hope-DC, a 5K course in the nation's capital, is a fun and inspiring way to join forces in the fight against brain tumors by raising funds for research. It is one of the largest fundraisers in the country benefiting the brain tumor community and the proceeds support the National Brain Tumor Society and ABC² (Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure). Through generous gifts from individuals and company sponsorships, the Race for Hope - DC has raised over $29 million in its history. Join thousands of runners and walkers at this family friendly event supporting the brain tumor community. 

Cinco De Miler – Terrapin Adventure Park, Stevensville
Sunday, May 6th, 9 a.m.
Join Charm City Run at their Cinco de Miler five-mile trail race. The race will benefit ShoreRivers, a local nonprofit dedicated to protecting and restoring Eastern Shore waterways. The top three overall male and female as well as age group awards will be given. After you finish your scenic run, you’ll enjoy a post-race celebration sponsored by The Jetty Restaurant & Dock.
