December Music Preview: Five Great Shows Coming to Maryland This Month

The holiday season is here, and Santa Claus is coming to town…along with several great bands and musicians. Before you pass out those presents, maybe gift yourself some concert tickets. For a full list of concerts coming to Maryland in December, visit our online calendar. Here are a few great shows coming to the area this month:

Mumford & Sons: Capital One Arena, D.C., December 14th 
Folk-rock band Mumford & Sons rose to fame after releasing their 2007 debut album, Sigh No More, which featured the popular songs “The Cave” and “Little Lion Man.” In support of their fourth studio album, Delta, Mumford & Sons have kicked off a world arena tour. The band will be joined by Easton-native Maggie Rogers. Mumford & Sons will be performing at Capital One Area on Friday, December 14th, 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices vary and can be purchased here.

Southside Johnny: Rams Head on Stage, December 16th
Considered the “Grandfather of the New Jersey sound,” Southside Johnny, much like his longtime friends Bruce Springsteen and Steven Van Zandt, emerged from the 1960s music scene in Asbury Park, New Jersey. Over the last four decades, Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes’ rock-soul sound and high-energy performances have earned them a large and loyal fan base. Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes will be performing at Rams Head on Stage on Sunday, December 16th, 8 p.m. Tickets are $65 and available here

Darlene Love: Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts, December 17th 
Best known for her holiday classic “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home),” Darlene Love is a Grammy Award winner and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee. Her captivating stage presence and powerful vocals have entertained audiences for over 40 years. Darlene Love will bring her Love for the Holidays show to Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts Monday, December 17th, 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices vary and can be purchased here

Jamie McLean Band: Stoltz Listening Room, Easton, December 28th
As a guitarist for Aaron Neville and Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Jamie McLean played R&B and soul music for audiences all over the world. Now, as front man and lead singer for the Jamie McLean Band, Jamie McLean is showcasing even more of his talents by performing his own original soul and blues inspired compositions. Jamie McLean Band will be performing at the Stoltz Listening Room on Friday, December 28th, 7 p.m. Tickets are $25 and available here

The Roots: Fillmore Silver Spring, Silver Spring, December 28th 
Since their formation in Philadelphia in 1987, The Roots have become one of the music industry’s most popular hip-hop acts. Aside from being the official house band on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, The Roots have received a total of 12 Grammy nominations, four wins, and were named one of the greatest live bands by Rolling Stone. The Roots will be performing at The Fillmore Silver Spring on Friday, December 28th, 8 p.m. Tickets are $69.50 and available here
