Cheers to the New Year: NYE Happenings and Celebrations

By Cate Reynolds

Whether you’re looking for a late night with friends, or a lowkey evening with family, say goodbye to 2018 and ring in the new year at one of these great events.

Before bedtime:

If you’re looking to celebrate the new year with your family, but don’t want to keep the kids up all night, an early celebration is the perfect compromise. The Chesapeake Children’s Museum will be offering a craft day, where kids can make party hats, noise makers, and Chinese yo-yos. Or, treat your kids to an early new year countdown at Kent County Library, Eco Adventures in Millersville, Cabin Fever Play Centre in Cambridge, or the Maryland Science Center

Concerts:

Does a New Year’s Eve concert sound like music to your ears? Spend the evening at Rams Head on Stage for a New Year’s Eve celebration featuring TUSK: The Ultimate Fleetwood Mac Tribute. On the Eastern Shore, enjoy a concert by the Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra at Christ Church in Easton or a New Year’s Eve Potluck at the Mainstay, featuring Joe Holt on the Piano. If you’re feeling a little jazzy, make the trip to the Kennedy Center for A Jazz New Year’s Eve, featuring Patti Austin and Trevor Lawrence Jr.

Parties:

For a celebration filled with food, drinks, and plenty of fun—look no further. Party like it’s 1970 (and 1980) at La Fontaine Bleue’s 70s and 80s New Year’s Eve Prom Night, or put on your best holiday attire and head to Union Jack’s Annapolis for its New Year’s Eve Extravaganza. For a party that offers top notch views of the Annapolis fireworks, head to the Annapolis Waterfront Hotel for Pusser’s Caribbean Grille’s New Year’s Eve Bash, which benefits the Anne Arundel County SPCA.  Or, spend your night cruisin’ aboard the Catherine Marie during Watermark Cruises’ New Year’s Eve Annapolis Fireworks Cruise.

Town celebrations:

If you want to spend the evening surrounded my friends, family, and neighbors, ring in the new year at your town’s New Year’s Eve celebration. Annapolis, Cambridge, Berlin, Easton, Salisbury, and Ocean City are all hosting unique events filled with activities for the whole family.
