Local Limelight: Movers and Shakers

The Annual Mardi Gras Gala sponsored by the Anne Arundel County Arts Council was held on Saturday, February 17th at the Sheraton Hotel in Annapolis . The evening featured dinner and dancing to the sounds of Radio City , silent and live auctions, and best costume and best mask prizes (courtesy of What's Up? Annapolis ). All proceeds support nonprofit arts and cultural programs in the county and help to fund the Arts in Education Program, which provides funding for live arts performances and artist-in-residence programs in public and private schools.

The recent Bosom Buddies Ball held at the Chesapeake Bay Beach Club in Stevensville raised over $125,000 toward the purchase of a digital mammography system for the Anne Arundel Medical Center currently under construction on Kent Island . The sell-out crowd of 290 guests proved generous patrons, bidding bigheartedly on ten lavish live auction items. Guests enjoyed a lavish dinner and dancing the night away.

The Annapolis Chorale recently celebrated their annual gala “One Hot Winter Night” at the Loews Hotel on the 13th. The black tie-optional fundraising event featured the Chorale's signature mix of great music, friends and food. The evening began with a cocktail reception in the Loews Atrium where several musicians serenaded partygoers as they bid on silent auction items. For the 130 guests in attendance, Chorale Music Director J. Ernest Green gathered a bevy of amazingly talented performers to play selections of the Chorale's broad repertoire. The evening raised more than $14,000 for the Chorale.
