The What’s Up Guide to Dining on the Chesapeake Bay
With descriptions, docking information and phone numbers for more than 50 area restaurants

Summer is the season to savor Chesapeake cuisine–and our annual What’s Up? dining guide will help you find the perfect place, whether your tastes run to steamed crabs on newspaper or baked rockfish with sherry-Dijon cream. The local restaurants listed here are all accessible by boat (and what could be better than going by water?) or by car. So grab your sandals, Sebagos or spiked heels—there’s a restaurant waiting that will suit your taste perfectly.

ANNAPOLIS

In the historic heart of Annapolis, you can satisfy your appetite at dozens of eateries, including taverns that welcomed arriving sailors 300 years ago. City Dock, Main Street, West Street and the Maritime Republic of Eastport offer scores of fine restaurants just steps from anywhere you might want to leave your boat (or car). Time your visit right and you could catch the traditional July 4th parade and fireworks, the August 1 all-you-can eat Rotary Club Crab Feast, or the August 9 family celebration of African culture and history, the Kunta Kinte Heritage Festival. Check the Annapolis Summer Garden Theater schedule, too.

Phillips Annapolis Harbor – Annapolis

Premium crab cakes and a breathtaking view of City Dock and the harbor—what more could a hungry boater want? Phillips Annapolis Harbor has all that, and more. Wednesday nights in summer feature all-you-can eat crabs, while Thursday nights on the terrace offer live music to watch boats by. The Phillips family has been serving regional seafood dishes for over forty years, and they know what they’re doing. Reservations are accepted but not required.
