The Live Wire: Concert Previews
When, Who, Where, and What You’ll Dig...

3/1 Maceo Parker at the State Theatre, Falls Church (703) 237-0300
Looking for some bumping grooves, sensational sax playing, and jazz couth? Maceo Parker is your man. For over 40 years Parker has been a funky force, playing sax with the likes of James Brown, P-Funk and Bootsy Collins, Ray Charles, and even the Red Hot Chili Peppers, all the while establishing his own, choice band.

3/7 Little Feat
at the Recher Theatre, Towson (410) 547-SEAT
Since their humble beginning in 1969, Little Feat has enjoyed (and endured) one heck of a rock ‘n’ roll ride. Today’s seven-member band continues to belt out Feat favorites and new cuts, all with that infectious Cali-Dixie-fornia-land mojo.

3/8 Robin Trower at Rams Head Live!, Baltimore (410) 244-1131
An exceptional guitarist that emerged from the progressive late-60s English crop of rock musicians, Trower is a can’t-miss legend, whose four-member band embarks on a world tour this year.

3/9 Van Halen at 1st Mariner Arena, Baltimore (410) 547-SEAT
Seconds anyone? Our region’s second Van Halen appearance during their “we finally buried the hatchet and like David Lee Roth (for now)”-tour is sure to be a rock revival. With “Diamond” Dave at the helm it’s always a party—and you’ll hear a Roth-era heavy setlist.

3/11 Dolly Parton at the Patriot Center, Fairfax (410) 547-SEAT
The queen of country is on a rare tour in support of her first mainstream album in 17 years, Backwoods Barbie. From singing old favorites to new singles, she’s a dynamo performer.

3/14 Pat Metheny Trio at the State Theatre, Falls Church (703) 237-0300
Metheny has a genuine knack for the incredible. The gifted musician is one of, if the best, technical jazz-fusion guitarists. Bassist Christian McBride and drummer Antonio Sanchez will join him. The trio recently released a fab album, Day Trip.

3/15 Richard Marx & Matt Scannell at Rams Head OnStage, Annapolis (410) 268-4545
One of the most prolific hit songwriters/musicians of the late ’80s and ’90s, Marx will perform a mix of his pop-rock hits and new tunes from his first solo album since ’97, My Own Best Enemy—a collection of introspective, edgy tunes. Vertical Horizon’s Scannell joins him.

3/26-27 Buddy Guy at the Birchmere, Alexandria (410) 547-SEAT
Don’t pass up the opportunity to see a living legend. Guy is to the blues what P, B & J is to sandwiches—an original, a classic, a favorite that stands the test of time. He mixes soul, funk, and gritty blues into a southern-inspired addictive sound.

3/27 Victor Wooten Band at the Recher Theatre, Towson (410) 547-SEAT
Some say Wooten is the most influential bassist since the late Jaco Pastorius. Wooten certainly qualifies for such a comparison. Well known for his work with banjoist Bela Fleck, Wooten is adept at playing almost any genre of music imaginable. (also 3/28 at the State Theatre)

3/30 Glen Phillips at the Avalon Theatre, Easton (410) 547-SEAT
You might remember Phillips from his days fronting the alt-rock banc Toad the Wet Sprocket. Today, Phillips continues to write poignant songs with a sort Beatles-esque sensibility and Cat Stevens sound. His newest, Secrets of the New Explorers, offers a great listen.
