Chesapeake Event Highlights | November 2009
Heave Ho!
In an exciting display
of brute strength,
Tug of War XII, on
November 7th, pits
Annapolis teams
against those from
the Maritime Republic
of Eastport on either
ends of the 1,700’
tournament rope,
stretched across the
Spa Creek harbor
(a.k.a. Gulf of
Eastport) in
Annapolis. It’s a
locals’ party and
everyone is invited to
witness the blood,
sweats, tears, and
mostly laughs along
the way. For complete
tug details visit
TheMRE.org.
It’s Culinary,
It’s Notable
It’s the 29th Annual
Concert of Tastes
presented by the Friends
of the Annapolis
Symphony Orchestra. On
November 1st, the banquet
room in the Sheraton
Annapolis Hotel will be
transformed into an
epicurean paradise with
over 25 Annapolis-area
restaurants providing
gourmet food stations,
wine and spirits to pair,
live music, and a silent
auction, all to benefit the
arts programs of the
Annapolis Symphony
Orchestra. For tickets visit
AnnapolisSymphony.org or
call 410-263-0907.
He Sang, She Sang
Back-to-back nights at the Verizon Center in
Washington, D.C. see mega-billings with Bruce
Springsteen & The E Street Band on November 2nd,
followed by Miley Cyrus on the 3rd. Springsteen and
Co. have been a rock ‘n’ roll tour-de-force for the
better part of four decades, while Cyrus has reigned
supreme, often at the top of the pop Billboard charts
for the last several years. For tickets, try

Beachy Keen
From seashells to sea science, the
first ever International Beachcombing
Conference covers it all;
that is, all things beach related.
The weekend-long conference,
November 7–8, will bring together
beachcombing enthusiasts,
environmentalists, oceanographers,
geologists, photographers, crafters,
and many more to the Chesapeake
Bay Foundation’s Phillip Merrill
Environmental Center in Annapolis.
Workshops, panel discussions,
artisans’ beach crafts and jewelry,
book signings, and Beachcomber’s
Bash party on Saturday night
round out the event. Visit Beach
CombingConference.com for
complete details.
Water, Water Everywhere
Water sports, watermen,
and, of course, all things
waterfowl are the calling cards of the 39th Annual
Waterfowl Festival, a wildlife art and sportsman’s
expo, taking place at venues throughout Easton on
the weekend of November 13–15. From duck
carvings to metal sculpture and oil paintings, the
aesthetics of the festival are sure to please. And for
those seeking a little adventure, the dock dogs
jumping contest is not to be missed. Food, drink,
live music, kids activities, and much more are also
on the bill. For a complete schedule of events and
venues visit
WaterfowlFestival.org.
Stars and Strings Align
Fans of Star Wars won’t want to miss the galaxy’s
biggest concert extravaganza of the year; Star Wars™:
In Concert at Baltimore’s 1st Mariner Arena on
November 18th. A full symphony and choir will perform
John Williams’ iconic music from the six-film sci-fi
masterpiece by George Lucas. C-3PO will narrate the
performance live, as footage from the films sync to the
music on a three-story tall, high-definition jumbo
screen. Altogether it should make for an epic
performance. Tickets are available through
Ticketmaster.com (410-547-SEAT).
