Sweet Dreams
In the Land of Sweets, Christmas spirit reigns; but to get there the Nutcracker must defend young Clara against the Mouse King. This holiday favorite, The Nutcracker, set to the dramatic music of Tchaikovsky and performed by the Ballet Theatre of Maryland, returns to Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts in Annapolis December 9 through 17. A Country Christmas
Country mega-star Martina McBride returns to the Verizon Center in D.C. on December 21 to perform her Joy of Christmas concert, now in its fourth year. The country singer has won the Country Music Association's CMA Female Vocalist of the Year Award four times and is once again preparing to dazzle all with her soprano voice. Comedy of Carols
The Hack & Slash Christmas Special, the Musical is a raucous, comedic take on the Charles Dickens classic, A Christmas Carol. Mr. Hack and Mr. Slash promise you'll laugh yourself silly for 2 hours. New York Nights
The hit Broadway musical Rent is at the Lyric Opera House in Baltimore December 1 through 3. Winner of the 1996 Tony Award for Best Musical, among many other honors, the show follows Mark, a New York filmmaker, through his encounters with a myriad of struggling characters and his own search for self and purpose. Friendly Competition
On December 6, 1 st Mariner Arena in Baltimore hosts the Mercantile Tennis Challenge, a charity match to benefit the Baltimore Community Foundation. The friendly foes facing each other include many of the sport's greats, including Martina Navratilova, the Bryan brothers, Mardy Fish, and Robby Ginepri. East Meets West
The Rob Levit & Friends Holiday Show at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts on December 13 will bring together an all-star roster of local musicians and special guest Alif Laila from Bangladesh, one of the few women among the world's sitar virtuosos.
