Local Limelight: Movers & Shakers

The Anne Arundel Medical Center Foundation hosted its 17th Annual Golf Classic on September 18 at the Chartwell Golf & Country Club to benefit the hospital’s nationally recognized Vascular Center. One hundred twenty-six golfers played, raising more than $200,000. The hole-in-one prizes were a Maserati Quattroporte car and a 32' Beneteau sailboat. Auction items featured a Paul Reed Smith guitar, a Tiger Woods autographed photo, and two wine lots.

On Thursday, September 21, owner and Spa Director Jaye Ross officially opened Pink Patio MedSpa to the public. The spa is a minority woman-owned business that offers noninvasive, anti-aging and skin rejuvenating services under the care of licensed health care professionals in a spa setting. Special guests included Janet Owens, Janet Greenip, and Sheriff George Johnson. Guests enjoyed an outdoor reception under a tent, with catered food and champagne. Pink Patio MedSpa is located at 167-W Jennifer Road, Annapolis.

On September 9, more than seventy boats and hundreds of sailors from Maryland, Virginia, and the D.C. Metro area participated in the Chesapeake Bay's 2006 Hospice Cup, the largest charity regatta in the United States, which celebrated its 25th year of racing. The boats competed for class trophies and ten sponsored perpetual trophies that were awarded for both exceptional racing and special achievements. The Hospice Cup XXV event raised more than $375,000 for hospice support programs in local communities. The race event is capped by donors being treated to a day on the Chesapeake Bay watching the exciting race and enjoying a great post race awards shore party.

On September 13 at the Ethan Allen Global 75th Anniversary Banquet, Dan Galley, General Manager of the Annapolis Interior Design Center received the 2006 National Leadership Excellence award in front of 800 Ethan Allen associates from all over the world. This was a huge recognition for the Annapolis Interior Design Center as they increased sales by 60% in their first year under the Garon's management team. On September 19, State Senator Janet Greenip, R-Crofton, District 33, presented a special award to Caruso Homes, honoring the company’s continued participation in and support of Hope International’s House for Hope program.


On October 6, Historic Annapolis Foundation held its Annual Meeting and Preservation Awards Ceremony. Thirteen awards were given to recognize projects, individuals, organizations, contractors, and architects whose work continues the tradition of outstanding preservation projects in the city.
