Over the course of 25 years and 10 albums, the Subdudes have quietly become one of America’s national music treasures. The New Orleans-formed group draws most of their inspiration from a vibrant cauldron of sounds that stirs together meaty grooves and jazzy dynamics, soulful R&B swagger, easy vocal harmonies, cheeky rock ‘n’ roll attitude, and folky social consciousness. The Subdudes came together after backing artists such as Joni Mitchell and Roseanne Cash, and went on to have the likes of Bob Dylan guitarist Freddy Koella and Keb' Mo' be among the producers of their acclaimed albums. Their upcoming new release, “4 on the Floor,” due out in August, captures the experience when the guys grab their acoustic instruments and come down from the stage and play in the crowd.
