Gampopa Center Movie Night: TRAVELERS & MAGICIANS
On select Saturdays throughout the year, the Gampopa Center will host movie nights, featuring films and documentaries with Buddhist themes and perspectives. In the past, we’ve screened films like Bokar Rinpoche: Meditation Master and The Art of Torma Making. Now that we are settled into our new Center, we are excited to start movie nights again! The first movie that we will show is Travelers & Magicians, directed by Khyentse Norbu (also known as Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche). According to Zeitgeist Films, Travelers & Magicians tells the tale of a young Bhutanese man named Dondup, who “dreams of escaping to America while stuck in a ravishingly beautiful but isolated village. When the first chance arrives, he immediately heads for town and an awaiting visa, but things don't go quite as planned. Missing the bus, he hitchhikes with an elderly apple seller, a sage young monk, and an old man travelling with his beautiful daughter Sonam. Along the way, the perceptive yet mischievous monk tells Dondup a story of another young man who sought a land far away: a tale of lust, jealousy and murder that holds up a mirror to the restless Dondup and his blossoming attraction to the innocent Sonam. Travelers & Magicians is a magical mixture of rustic road movie and mystical fable...a potpourri of desire and its consequences, set in a breathtaking landscape.” We will show this wonderful film at the Gampopa Center on February 18th, 2017, at 7:00 PM. The runtime is 108 minutes. We hope to see you there!
