Annapolis High School’s Drama Company Presents West Side Story

Annapolis High School’s Drama Company Fuses a Timeless Love Story with Theatrical Artistry in West Side Story

Come one, come all to AHS Drama Company’s most recent musical adventure. Chronicling the twisted saga of lovebirds Tony and Maria in the eye of New York City’s hurricane of gang wars, AHS Drama Co invigorates the classic tale in their fresh rendition. High-schoolers representing a vast array of racial and ethnic backgrounds unite under the stage lights to tell a story of diversity, racial tension, and defying stereotypes. Students have been rehearsing since the autumn of 2016, perfecting their craft and preparing to showcase their talents onstage. Senior Kennedy Thompson and sophomore Iris Reyes will portray iconic lead characters Tony and Maria, respectively. The rehearsal process has not only refined the cast's dancing skills, but also left long-lasting impact on their lives: "I think our rehearsals are just that: practicing to better ourselves not only for this show, but for the future," says Kennedy Thompson. Tickets are available for online purchase through a service which can be accessed by visiting In addition to the whirlwind of musical talent radiating from the cast and pit band, the technical crew of AHS Drama Company is hard at work at several not-to-be-missed tech projects for the show. Technical Director Tess McArdle says, “While minimal in movement, the tech for the show is extravagant in size including two additional stages (one thrust and one raked), four towers, one balcony, and two tower-like structures that transform into different places, such as a dress shop.” Annapolis High School Drama Company encourages anyone and everyone to drop by the show prepared to laugh, cry, and dance along! West Side Story will leave you humming, "Gee AHS Drama Co!"
