Swing-Jazz-Blues and Sousa!

Please join us for a delightful one-hour concert of classic swing, jazz and blues instrumentals and vocals, featuring master musicians Guy Van Duser and Billy Novick. Their repertoire is fresh and original, yet also deeply rooted in the rich legacy of the classic jazz age -- ranging from an obscure Ellington tune, a Gershwin classic, a complex Jelly Roll Morton arrangement, to a rollicking blues number and a dazzling Sousa march. Together as a duo for more than thirty years -- longer than most marriages -- Guy and Billy have performed in concerts, clubs and festivals all over North America and Europe. You may have heard them as frequent guests on Garrison Keillor's "Prairie Home Companion," NPR's "All Things Considered," or on one of numerous film and television soundtracks. Their music is based around Guy's innovative finger-style guitar wizardry, and his uncanny ability to play bass lines, chords and melodies all at the same time. With his daring imagination, breathtaking technique, and his wonderful musicality, Guy has become an inspiration for guitarists all over the world. Novick's ever-inventive and soulful clarinet playing provides the ideal complement to Guy's guitar. With his vast knowledge of the classic jazz era, his dazzling improvising skills, and his entertaining vocals, Novick is able to add a melodic and dynamic spark to Guy's guitar. Billy Novick also earned major acclaim recently for his compositions and arrangements for Washington Ballet's acclaimed productions of "The Great Gatsby" and "The Sun Also Rises." Join us after the performance for a wine & cheese reception -- and enjoy the beautiful tapestries on display in Ulrika Leander's studio and gallery. This program is funded in part by a grant from the Talbot County Arts Council, with revenues provided by the Maryland State Arts Council. Tickets are $22 for adults, $7 for students, and are discounted for groups or those who request assistance. Space is limited. For tickets, visit or call 301-466-0183
