Oyster Festival

The annual Captain Avery Museum Oyster Festival will be held on Sunday, October 15th, 12:30–5 p.m. This festival has it all: food from top local eateries, music from local bands, children’s activities, craft offerings, and Avery’s own “Choose It!” way of filling your calendar with fun all year round. Oyster lovers can get their fill any way they like ‘em: raw; fried in a basket, platter, or roll; in stew; in soup; in sushi; or in shooters. There are plenty of activities for the kids including live crab races, face painting by local artists, crafts, and games. Meanwhile, the adults can sip beer or wine while the Eastman String Band fills the air with Bluegrass and Americana or Coastal Flats, an acoustic combo, plays oldies, goodies, and everything in between. For those in a shopping mood, local crafts and an assortment of “Choose It!” items and experiences will be for sale. Cello lessons, a custom quilt, wine tasting, a vacation rental, and landscape design are some examples of what buyers might find among the practical and indulgent choices.
