Fernando N. Gomez presents: Atú: Drum King
Per tradition on the eve of his enthronement ceremony, Atú exits his village for a night to return the following morning and be crowned king. Mysteriously, upon returning he finds his people are gone and the village is empty. What remain are the familiar drumbeats of the enthronement ceremony. Drum King showcases the journey of a relentless search for kinfolk, showcasing history and current societal challenges. This experimental play incorporates dynamic drumbeats dating from centuries ago infused with traditional and contemporary dance and spoken word. A creative set design serves as the backdrop with eye-catching visuals and a dramatic feel. In six brilliant scenes Atú: Drum King presents the narrative of searching for identity, the difficulty of the search, and the courage to hope.
