Smart Woman: HPV Vaccine for Cancer Prevention

Categorized as: Health & Wellness
Event tags: Children's Health

91% of HPV related cancers can be prevented with the HPV vaccine. About nine in 10 people will be exposed to HPV, or human papillomavirus, in their lifetime. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), nearly all cases of cervical cancer can be linked to HPV. HPV also causes between 50 and 60 percent of cancers, including vaginal and vulvar cancers, anal cancer, throat cancer and penile cancer.

Join us to discuss the importance of HPV immunization for children in our community. The panel will answer common questions around the HPV vaccine, such as:

--What is human papillomavirus (HPV)?

--Is the HPV vaccine safe?

--Why does my child need the HPV vaccine?

--When should my child be vaccinated?

Panelists include:

--Luq Dad, MD

--Charles Parmele, MD

--Joanne Ebner, RN, BSN, TTS

--Cassie Roberts, DNP, CPNP, IBCLC
