Rod and Reef Slam

A fishing tournament that celebrates the benefits of oyster reefs in the Chesapeake Bay

Anglers of all ages and experience are invited to participate in a different sort of fishing tournament, one that awards prizes for number of species caught, as well as size. It’s all part of a celebration of the benefits of oyster reefs in the Chesapeake Bay. The 2nd annual Rod & Reef Slam fishing tournament will be held Saturday, Sept. 22 in Sherwood, Maryland. Oyster reefs provide habitat for fish to feed. Reefs also filter water, and provide other important benefits. As part of the tournament, anglers will be able to fish on six sanctuary reefs off-limits to harvesting. The event is sponsored by the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and the Coastal Conservation Association, Maryland, among other groups. The tournament includes an after-party, as well as powerboat, kayak, and youth divisions. Please go to www.cbf.org/slam to register and for more information.
