The Best of Janis Joplin & Jimi Hendrix

feat. Kelly Bell, Tommy Lepson, Patty Reese, Mama Moon

Two of music’s immortals are honored in this show from Newmyer Flyer paying tribute to Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix. Janis Joplin hailed from Port Arthur Texas where she fell in love with the deep blues and soul she heard on the radio. Arriving in San Francisco in the mid 60’s she joined forces with the psychedelic blues band Big Brother and the Holding Company who released “Cheap Thrills” which contained her mesmerizing performances of Piece of My Heart, Ball & Chain and Summertime. She formed other bands to better serve the music that she felt, which yielded more hits like ‘Move Over’, ‘Try’ and ‘Me & Bobby McGee’. Her legendary live performances and wildly charismatic personae cemented her legacy. Audiences were spellbound by the passion she brought to every song. She was essentially the first rock-mama and brought the blues to millions. There really hasn’t been one like her since.
