Joanna Barnum "Portrait in Watercolor" Demo
St. Michaels Art League September Meeting
Non-members interested in finding out more about the League are welcome. Guest artist, Joanna Barnum, uses watercolor to express universal emotional states and the unique spirits of her portrait subjects. She likes the experimental and abstract use of the media with "sensitive realism and symbolism". Joanna will demonstrate her technique for “splicing” together multiple views of the portrait, working with non-traditional use of masking fluid and photo reference.
Joanna earned her BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art and has worked for the past decade as an independent fine artist, illustrator, and instructor. She is a Signature Member of the National Watercolor Society, and has been featured in several editions of the “Splash” series of the best in watercolor from Northlight Books. She teaches watercolor at Chesapeake Fine Art Studio in Stevensville, MD.
This program is funded in part by a grant from the Talbot Arts Council with revenues provided by the MD State Arts Council.
