 “Sail Away” while learning the history of the Chesapeake Bay aboard the 74-foot Schooner Woodwind: History Cruise: Steamboats and Ferries of the Bay, by Mechelle Kerns Steamboats and Ferries were once common on the Severn River. They transported people, agricultural produce, and the seafood bounty that made the Chesapeake famous. They also were part of the leisure travel industry that has brought tourist to our beautiful capital city on the water for 100s of years. Dr. Mechelle Kerns is a Historical Archaeologist and History Professor (USNA and UMUC). She specializes in topics related to Colonial America and maritime history. Cruises depart from the Annapolis Waterfront Hotel at 5:30pm and return at 7:30pm.
