Scholarships for Scholars, Inc., is a nonprofit organization that acknowledges excellence in education by awarding scholarships to graduating students of Anne Arundel County Public Schools, other Anne Arundel County educational institutions, and home-schooled students. Scholarships are awarded at the awards presentation on April 23. Applications will be available from guidance counselors. Completed applications are due in the high school counselor’s office by February 9, 2007, and winners are notified the beginning of April. Call or visit the Web site for more information.

An annual favorite, this event features an open bar, dinner, dancing to Radio City, and live and silent auctions. Mardi Gras trinkets provided. This fun-filled gala benefits the Arts Council’s Arts-in-Education Program.
Hot Lights/Cool Art: A Return to the 20th Century

This special celebration will raise funds for the St. John’s College Mitchell Gallery’s educational programs, which are free and open to school groups as well as the general public. The Next Generation committee will create its own version of Studio 54 in the Great Hall, complete with disco lights, dancing to a DJ spinning ’70s hits, and fabulous food and drinks. Additionally, there will be a silent auction featuring wearable art designed by local artists. Guests can also view the 20th Century Graphics exhibit throughout the evening.

Hospice of the Chesapeake CD
Hospice of the Chesapeake recently partnered with local jazz and fusion guitarist Rob Levit to create a special CD, Songs of Healing, of “acoustic guitar with touches of percussion and voice; perfect music for meditation, quiet times, reflection, and joy,” according to Levit. Though the holiday season has come and gone, it’s never too late (or early) to enjoy the gift of giving. Each CD is $10 ($11 with shipping and handling) and 50 percent of the proceeds go directly to Hospice of the Chesapeake.
